4 Bizarre Printing Facts You’ve Never Heard Of

Large format poster printing

If you’re looking for custom printed items, rush printing, large format printing, or banner printing, you’re not gonna find it in this article. But you may find all these and more at your local printing company. Save yourself the time and hassle and let the pros handle your next printing project. But until then, check out these interesting facts about printers and the things they print!

Printed Edible Sushi – The future is now! For around $240, you can eat sushi printed on paper with edible ink. A “mad-scientist” style chef from Chicago came up with this one, and I’m not entirely sure how much I like the sound of fish flavored paper. Not really my idea of gourmet.

Printed Body Parts – Cornell University engineers actually managed to print a working human ear by using cells from a subject’s ribs. By mixing the cells with a gel substance, the 3D printer was able to make a perfect replica ear. I don’t know if your local printing company can do that, unfortunately. (Not yet at least.)

Printed Faces – Wait, what? Like actual faces? Yup. A Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute doctoral student decided to print replica faces of real humans, based off of a small piece of their DNA. Where did she find this DNA? On discarded cigarette butts. Now loading: complete stranger…

Printed Fetuses – By far the most bizarre print job, in Japan, you can pay to have a 3D model printed of your future baby. By taking a 3D ultrasound, technicians can then print you a model of your fetus. I don’t really know where you’d put that, but who knows. Maybe you’ve already cleared a spot on the mantle. See more.
